From a young age I inherited my father’s love of photography and have pursued it as a hobby for many years.
But a trip to Sri Lanka on a volunteer mission in the wake of the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami really ignited my passion.
While helping with the mammoth clean-up effort, I met a fellow photographer who encouraged me to take my hobby more seriously. We kept in touch and met again at a sports event in Dubai which ultimately led to a magazine publishing several of my images.
I subsequently travelled to Dubai and Oman several times to take photos, as well as trips to Thailand, Sri Lanka, Australia and the United States. I have taken photos of New Zealand’s Rugby 7s team on several occasions in Dubai and have been approached by various art galleries to show my work.
I like to look for small details that might go unnoticed by others and am willing to patiently wait for just the right moment – even if it takes several days for that moment to arrive. I embrace the solitude of being alone in the great outdoors and particularly enjoy working in the pre-dawn light.
Based in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, I also work as a tour leader and have travelled to more than 40 countries throughout my adventurous life. Watch my blog for future trips.
